Basic stepsIn getting my link internships a few basic steps were required. First off, when I was looking for a place to do my internship at, I was trying to stay local, because I wanted to continue training for the upcoming paddling season. From there I narrowed down my criteria to AMPT, because they are the only aerospace company that is in the Durango area. Then I proceeded to reach out to Eric Pinkerton through email to see if it would be possible for me to intern at there facility. He said yes! I was extremely excited and fortunate because compared to my peers, I didn't get a denial, they were my first choice. So after their initial email, I went into the facilities at AMPT and had a look around to see if I really did want to have my internship there. And after that tour, there was no doubt in my mind that this was the perfect internship for me. Challenges of getting an LINK InternshipThe challenges that I faced getting my internship was that I had to reach out to Eric by email. That scared the living heck out of me because I had to write an email that was professional enough to be taken seriously and to get a response from it. As well as, I had to wait for a 100% confirmation because AMPT sometimes deals with top secret projects in which I would not be allowed to intern there because of my security clearance, of being a high schooler. Why AMPT?The reason why I chose AMPT is that in the future I see myself becoming an aerospace engineer, and I wanted to see if I would actually fit into an environment like that. I really wanted to gain the experience of learning what engineers actually do and to gain the experience to shape myself and my tools in order to become a successful one. What Do I Hope to Gain From the Experience? With this experience, I hope to gain an insight into what actually happens in the aerospace industry, and what it takes to become an aerospace engineer. I also hope to gain the idea of what to do in college to get where my colleges are, to really see how they got to where they are. I also want to see if I even would enjoy the life of an engineer, to see if I could actually survive in this sort of environment. What will I bring to AMPTI will bring my curiosity to my LINK internship, as well as my Fusion 360 cad experience. My curiosity is the gateway to my understanding this new world that I am about to embark on. With my curiosity to ask questions, will gain a better understanding of the world around me, and where I will fit into it.

As of right now, I am feeling great about my LINK internship, I have a connection at AMPT (Advanced Mobile Propulsion Test). I am currently pursuing this and hopefully, they will let me, intern! I am super excited for this because going down the field of rocket propulsion is a job that I am considering doing in the future!
