Socialization Exhibition
What is the Socialization Exhibition?
In the socialization project we dived deep into how people are being raised and brought up into society, for example why boys should like blue and not pink because it’s a girls color. Through the course of the project we made essays about different downfalls in our society, and how they are socialized into us. So these messages would be passed down generation to generation. After our essays we decided to build a maze that would describe the cycle of socialization in hopes it would make a change in our local community. In amazement it worked proving beyond our doubts on what is truly happening.

Reflection
In the Socialization project my growth as a writer has been astounding by how much I was able to refine. I say this because I was able to refine with more intensity than in any of my other projects throughout the years. I can prove this by having three drafts of the essay, and not one or two. Not only that, but between each draft was a massive increase of quality. The increase is very dramatic just look at the three. Here look at the intro that I have rewritten multiple times:
Draft 1:
Racism, an ugly word; it is what drives fear in this country, and people just can't accept white privilege, and racial disadvantage. Racism is still apart of our society, we need to break the vicious bonds that it has on our society. Giving all the equal opportunity as the white nap sack should be brought down to help everyone see the injustice that are performing in our society. White privilege, the invisible knapsack which holds the and easy access to the world. As whites we need to understand that it exists and that we need to find a way to demolish this wall.
Draft 2:
This is the world we live in, filled with differences, but one stays the same; socialization. Socialization shapes the world by bringing society's values and norms passed down to generation to generation. It can be big things and very small things for things that people don't think of, for socialization is our society. For race can be socialized, to think they are better or wors. Poverty can be socialized, to think that they are hopeless.
Draft 3:
This is the world we live in, filled with differences, but one stays the same; socialization. Socialization shapes the world by bringing our values and norms; the ways of our society, to be passed down by generation to generation. It can be as big as an entire culture to be putting your napkin in your lap. People don't think of socialization as how it shapes us, from what we wear to how we react, but it’s our society. Race can be socialized, to think that another ethnicity is better or worse.
As you can see, the intro paragraph has undergone massive amounts of change in order to be better. Through these changes I have come to understand, and make better progress on my documents to make sure they make sense. I have redone parts of theses not only to fit the grade, but to make it a respectable piece of writing that doesn't look like it was typed up in a night.
Through the socialization project has taught me to understand the issues that others have to face but I don't, this has lead me to try to help people in need of my help. The issues that I have come to understand is poverty, and racism in the United States. My tipping point emotionally and factually in the change that I have undergone is the podcast by This American Life: Three miles. The reason why this resonated with me because it hit me factually, it told me why I have an advantage over other people in the USA and in the world. Not only that it made me a little depressed, and now because of it I have wanted to try and make a difference. The difference that we made was the exhibition, in order to spread the word around that there is in fact injustices be low our feet.
The socialization project is a big deal, we all had to pitch in to help make it as good as it could be, and as a project manager for it my goals for my collaborations is to make sure that the project will go on. My goal as a group partners was to makes sure collaboration was going on, as well as effective material usage and time management. To ensure that the goals were met we would make sure we did was always talk to each other on their opinions on how the other groups were performing every day. By doing this we built a defcon system of where we think the groups where. Thes system work so we could organize ourselves to help the teams in dire need. I believe that we succeeded noticing that the maze was put on on time and was terrific, it also had all of the materials we needed to make it work in an amazing fashion.
As the entire grade, we all pitched in to make a socialization maze, in which explained the cycle of socialization, and my part in all of this was a project manager. As a project manager my job was to make sure the other parts of the maze have materials, had the wright information, and where going to get everything done on time. As a group member I think that I did my part because I was always helping the groups in need. For instance one of our groups was having trouble getting started, so I went with them to make sure everyone had a job, and the group had an idea to move them forward in that part of the maze. We were also responsible for making sure the other groups where hon task, so this meant sometimes organizing the class in order to get working on some days. I now have a newfound respect of teachers, and how hard they work to make these projects manageable.
